EEOC Publishes Workplace Guidance on the Israel-Hamas Conflict

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has published a fact sheet to make employees and employers aware of their rights and responsibilities under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict which has resulted in anti-Arab, anti-Middle Eastern, anti-Muslim and antisemitic discrimination.  

The fact sheet highlights the importance of preventing discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on religion, ethnicity and national origin and how each of these might manifest in the workplace. 

Next Steps 

Employers should be vigilant in preventing discrimination, harassment or retaliation based on an individual’s religion, ethnicity, or national origin. Employers should have anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, which establish effective complaint procedures. It is also recommended that employers ensure all employees have been trained in the organization’s policies and reporting procedures.  

As a reminder, employers who receive complaints should immediately address any instances of discrimination or harassment promptly and impartially.
